I just got a second hand pair of speakers off Ebay. They seem to work

Obvious question, anyone know of clever way to pull it out again?

Thanks to everyone who has emailed me and answered on the newsgroup.

I have tried the vacuum cleaner carefully and it has largely pulled the
dome back out. There are now 4 small dimples on an otherwise normal dome.

Yup, that's how it goes!

Do you all think these imperfections in the dome will have a serious
effect

No

or can I consider it job done?

Yes.

Unless of course someone can suggest
a way to get the dimples out as well.

If it bothers you (bothered me enough to reject a pair of very barginacious
Dynaudio Contour 1.1s, I might add....!!) you could try warming the domes
gently with a hairdryer* and approach them *very carefully* with the vacuum
cleaner again. (On second thoughts - just live with it!)

* If you don't have/use a hairdryer there's plenty here who do (I'm certain
of it) - mebbe one of 'em will lend you one?

;-)
