: OMFG! They sound so, so, so detailed and revealing in the treble!

: And these are lower-end Dynaudios! One can only wonder what the

:
: I have achieved audio contentment! They sound fan-TAS-tic!
:
: Perhaps a touch glassy sometimes with "s" sounds, but otherwise very

: Better sell on my Mission 752Fs and Cyrus II to defray some of the

Have to go along with you on the Dynaudio sound here. Your post led me to
have a bit of a listen (when I should really be doing something else, not
including lurking in newsgroups!) to my 62s, lesser drivers, bigger box, and
they are truly superb. Interestingly, I think the 42s are a better speaker
(got a pair of those too), but I do like the bass thud and more open sound
of the 62s.

Just out of curiosity - what made you buy them?! If you believe what you
read they're supposed to be current hungry solid state types - not suited to
valve amps. I find they match very well, on my 25w tube amp, plenty loud
enough - I found out by luck rather than judgement.

Anyway, enjoy!

Rob

ps - waiting for a comment or two on your new valve curiosity, seems an
awful lot for the money ...

Hi.

Yeah.

Well I'm a total treble freak cos I LOVE female vocals. I'd been to that
shop (Practical Hi-Fi) before, years ago, and they recommended Dynaudio
to me then.

Up till then, I'd used Mission 752 Freedom floorstanders (though I didn't
have them on the floor; I had them on Target HJ15s, which are 15" high,
and VERY solid and heavey, cos I like my sound tall, and I usually
listen standing), but acquiring the valve amp re-kindled my interest in
the pursuit of perfect sound, so I was reminded of the recommendation.

So I booked a dem and had a listen, and after just a very few minutes,
I knew I had to have them. There was no point listening longer. I
WANTED them.

So I whipped out the plastic and paid for them.

They are FANTASTIC! And I never bought them for bass, cos bass
doesn't interest me that much, but I stuck on Bjork's recent album
- sorry, I forget the name of it cos I'm ****ed; the one with "Joga"
on it - and wicked it up last night, and the bass was really impressive
for such a small box - which was an unexpected bonus. I bought them for
their AMAZING treble.

I guess they're crossovered to reduce the efficency across the band
to make it more equal to the lower level of bass a small box will
produce; rendering them pretty inefficient, but giving a really
creditable bass for their size.

Anyway, top and bottom, they're fantastic and I'm in love with them!

Sure, the valve amp doesn't have the bass KICK of the Cyrus II, but I
bought it and the speakers for their treble, which is nothing short
of awesome.

Get yourself a decent TV tuner, or some new ears.

The chain used in TV is at least the equal of any FM radio station.

Of course, the ultimate quality depends on the source material, as do all
broadcasts.

Horse ****.

It's appalling.

"New ears" indeed. Anyway, as I've said, it's cable, not
regular terrestrial TV.

If you'd read what I'd posted before firing off, you'd have seen
that that was what I was talking about.

Really? How long have you been associated with either?

It's appalling.

Then you really do need some new ears. Or equipment.

"New ears" indeed. Anyway, as I've said, it's cable, not
regular terrestrial TV.

Then say what you mean. "The sound quality off *my* TV setup is naff".

If you'd read what I'd posted before firing off, you'd have seen
that that was what I was talking about.

You expect everyone to guess what you actually mean?

Well Dave is correct in that analogue TV sound is distributed as NICAM
728 which is around that number of kilobits and should be about
indistinguishable from CD quality. DTV uses 256 Kilobit's which again
should be almost indistinguishable from CD, well for the vast majority
of users. In fact if DAB was at the 256 k rate I'd buy a DAB tuner
tomorrow!. Some chance!...

However, if as the posters says its via cable then all manner of nasties
could have happened to it at the headend.

Direct off air seems a better bet all round....

Oh now that IS a good album. In fact, it's going on now. I never thought my
wife /really/ loved me until she bought me Telegram a few Christmases ago,
she hates Bjork

Hmm. Well bitch neighbour from Hell was round knocking at my door
tonight, complaining about the music this last weekend. I must admit,
I really did open it up and stick the foot down, as it were, on
a couple of occasions, cos I wanted to take my new toys for a
proper test drive!

And damn good they sounded, too.

I have a surround sound setup using 42s. They do sound fabulous, and
do seem to enjoy having the volume turned up to 11! Are the 52's or
52SE's a significant step up from the 42's?
