Hi,

This may be a dumb question, but I am hoping someone can set me straight. I
am looking to buy a headset with headphones and a mic. I have separate
connect jacks in my external soundcard rather than 1 usb jack for both. I
want to be able to sometimes use the mic and my speakers rather than mic and
headset headphones. Is this possible with all such headsets that offer the 2
separate connections?

Perhaps someone can recommend some reasonably prices gear.

Yes. Only something designed for telephone use would have the headphone
and mic circuits integrated.

It depends what you want it for. They range in price from a few pounds to
hundreds - for broadcast use.

within 2m. I have seeinhesier px 200 headphones and now knowing the above
would like to get a mic that I can clip to these. Do you know anything you
could recommend?

VoIP systems tend to be vox switched to minimise non-payload traffic,
so the idea of picking up from 2 metres rather goes against the spirit
of the thing. In fact, with most systems, it probably won't even work.
Normally you would expect to use a headset with a built in boom mic.

Most pukka headset mics are designed to reject 'distant' sound by nature.
You've also got the problem of spill from the earpieces if you try and
pick up distant stuff.

I'm not quite clear why you'd want it to pick up something 2 metres away?
A two way conversation? If so, the mic needs to be roughly equidistant
between the two sources.

This message never showed up on my newsreader...hate when that
happens. Ok, reason for distance from mike is so 2 of us can be
involved in the conversation at the same time, would it pick things up
from 1m? we could sit that close.

Any recommendations for a clip on mic?
