Default Speaker Level Multi room

Hi,

I am wanting to distribute sound from 1 amp to multiple rooms, and
control the volume (to complete off) I was also want to distribute IR
as well back to the same amp. I don't want to use a dedicated multi
room system, due to cost.

I can't seem to find much information / sellers of speaker level
volume controls in the UK. Anyone have any luck finding reasonable
(compared with US price) volume controls ?

Also, I have found a Knoll system which appears to be a digitally
controlled speaker level control, with speaker cable running from a
control box, and then cat5 running to controllers in the room, which
can distribute IR back.

Any one know anything about these ?
Are they any good ?
Does anyone sell them in the UK?

Don't really fancy importing from the US !

http://www.knollsystems.com/digvol.htm

Thanks for any help !

The only way to control speaker volume after an ordinary amp is by using a
multi-tapped transformer. And such a thing is likely to cost a great deal
of money. And if you're driving several such setups off one amp - even
assuming you can find an amp capable of doing so, each control will also,
to some extent, alter the level to the other speakers.

It's better and cheaper to use a separate amp in each area fed at line
level.

Letsautomate.com sell Impedance Matching Volume Controls but I doubt you
could use more than one connected to a single amp.

Also sell Xantech remote extenders which will feed remote control
commands back to the amp.

Buy a few cheap similar amps off ebay and use one for each room
