Recording Vinyl to CD/Thank you all

Many thanks to you all for your kindness in trying to help me with this.
After many attempts I've found a way to obtain CDs with tracks but this
involves copying
the Vinyl content into the HDD in All Synchro mode and then record it on
CD/RW stilll in All
Synchro
mode: (notice that not even the smallest adjust is allowed here) and
then copy this to CD/R. I've decided to go for the manual track insert
which, as well as being safer, will give me the pleasure to listen to
some good operas. (In Italy we say: never mind, the grapes were sour!)
However, I feel a bit cheated because when I bought the CD recorder I
was told that this type of copying was very easy and straightforward.
We are now thinking f getting a DVD recorder with HDD and I'm wandering
where and who is going to tell the truth about it's properties.
My best regards.

I consider all these things to be examples of emerging technology - for
the cd recorder there is a fundamental contradiction between wanting a
smallish unit and useful visual interface. I still think that if you
know the rough timing of the tracks this can be done in a few minutes -
bit of a kerfuffle admittedly.
For DVD, I have a DVD HD recorder (Panasonic) and that does work well -
*much* quicker than the computer. A problem in the UK is the recent
introduction of free digital TV - the interface between the digital TV
and the dvd recorder is pretty poor in terms of programming. If you have
a decent programme guide (the US one looks good) and you're able to
afford the cost over VHS I'd say they're a good thing - picture quality,
reliability and convenience. Better methods of compression and storage,
and new TV standards, are on the horizon though - so i'd expect this
technology to be obsoletish within 5 years.
