That type of cast frame is the form that Goodmans (when they were still
a respected speaker company!) used for the later versions (around 1970)
of the Audiom 51/61 range and the Axiom 201/301. (If they are 12" that
is, the 15" unit was the Audiom 81)

These were the hi-fi versions with a plastic roll surround.

You missed out an adjective.
It should be "dreadful plastic roll surround."
I don't know what plastic Goodmans used but it shrinks over time and
ends up flat, which does wonders for the compliance and xmax.

That's true! My Axiom 301s are all OK, but my sole Audiom 81 has this
problem. Actually not all that bad, but the plastic surround isn't a
nice semi-circular profile all around the circumference any more.
I guess to an experienced speaker re-coner, putting a new roll surround
on would be a simple task.
