There is a lot of discussion here about equipment, amplifier
distortion , valves v solid state, the sound of cables and capacitors
etc..........and a lot of good tech advice and opinion .BUT what
about the music ?

Try a newsgroup with the word *music* in its name.

There are literally 100's of them.

Who is/was the most influential female recording artist of the late 20th

Not an easy one... There have been a lot of female singers who I would
class as being fairly original, but not all that many who I would class as
generally "influential". IMHO if you are looking for the most influential
then you have to be looking at likely influences on the most popular
current artists - but many of those have been striving for originality.

Sandy Denny has my vote - at least Fairport can legitimately claim to have
influenced other performers. A "golden" voice - my fave of all time!

Madonna - perhaps more influenced than influencing, but probably one of
the heroines of the karaoke circuit!

Julie Driscoll - possibly one of the more popular "gutsy" singers. May
have influenced some.

That's two of us for Sandy Denny then!

Put me down for one too. I thought Julie Driscoll was an interesting
suggestion. How about Janis Joplin?

Though I wouldn't mind betting Joan Sutherland has influenced more than all
of them.

Roy.
