Got levels set right in the Windows mixer?


Do you mean by this:


Control Panel | Sounds and audio devices | Sound Playback | Volume
Button


Then all 5 volume controls are at max and mute is deselected


Similarly with Sound Recording | Volume


All 3 volume controls are at max Only here the microphone is muted


Including the line input?

Note I am only using the motherboard sound chip SoundMax digital audio if
this helps


The Soundmax is IME one of the poorer ones, but it is capable of recording
something. However, there are such things as bad chips.

Are you sure that the Nero audio tool is set up to use the right audio
interface?
