Default Audio recording with Nero

If there is a better newsgroup/forum for this then please advise

I have just purchased Nero 6 reloaded so I can record what I am playing
with my soundcard using Wave Editor but I cannot get anything to record
at all. Everything else is OK and I have a moderm PC (Dell Optiplex,
WIN XP SP2 with all updates)

My friend with WIN2K had problems since the last round of Windows
updates but eventually manged to solve it by reinstalling loads of stuf
but Ihave had no such luck

Any ideas

Many thanks

Mike

There are free applications out there that would do this. Audiograbber
is one, I think. And there's Total Recorder which is a lot cheaper than
the full version of Nero. I've just bought Nero myself though, but not
for its audio recording capabilities.

In Windows: go to Control Panel = Sound and Audio Devices Properties =
Audio tab, and choose the option you want in the Sound recording
drop-down list.

In Wave Editor: go to Options = Device Settings, and set the input
device to the same option as for Sound recording above.

Click record then click record again in the dialogue box.

In the dialogue box you see after clicking record the first time, the
audio levels should be going up and down if there's audio on the input
device you've just set. If there's not, check your cables.

I've got XP with SP2, and it records okay.

I haven't used Nero's Wave Editor for ages so this could be nonsense, but
have you got the recording mixers set properly in XP's volume control, a
common mistake is to think that the playback mixers are all there are.
Double-click the volume control, Options, Properties, click on Recording.

As a rule Nero 6 works fine.

As a rule Nero 5 worked fine.

Exactly what happens?

Do you mean by this:

Control Panel | Sounds and audio devices | Sound Playback | Volume
Button

Then all 5 volume controls are at max and mute is deselected

Similarly with Sound Recordind | Volume

All 3 volume controls are at max Only here the microphone is muted

Note I am only using the motheboard sound chip SoundMax digital audio
if this helps

Mike

I Don't know much about Nero or Audiograbber but here is an
alternative worth a peek I think:
