You will get a whole raft of posts saying that Bose stuff is a complete
waste of time. I've never heard any and can only respond to what others
have said, and to sum that up; these 'tricks' are just that and nothing
more.

Personally I like to listen to music in the traditional way; stereo
amplifier and two speakers, if these are set up in the right way, roughly
a 6Ft triangle with the speakers toed in slightly then the effect is as
if you are there at the concert or in front of the piano or whatever. I
can see no reason to change other than by using better equipment. Again
personally I think that once you have acheived a certain standard the
differences become so small as to be indistinguishable.

I would read this and other forums for a few weeks and then decide.

For a starting point find out about the Rogers LS3/5a which was designed
by the BBC as an outside broadcast monitor and had to conform to a
specification which the BBC laid down, even today they are held in awe
and still copied.

My requirements are as follows:
smallish unit similar in size to the Bose
radio
clock
alarm
decent sound quality for listening to classical music
cd player
preferably in one box unit
I had a look at the Pure Legato which is small and does everything except
the speakers are separate units. I suppose that would be OK if they are
small.
I have an excellent sound system in my living room but would like a
compact one for use elsewhere and in particular the bedroom.
I am willing to pay more than the Legato in order to get a really good
sound and the reason I mentioned the Bose was because it had an excellent
review a few years ago in Gramophone magazine. However I realise that
since then things have probably changed.

I looked at the pure legato and was astonished I didn't realise that anyone
made anything so small, alas I am at a loss to say anything about it or
similar systems.

All I can say is that I made a couple of speakers recently using 3" drive
units and am amazed at the quality, the sound stage and the room filling
sound they are capable of;

It doesn't help you one bit but someone else following this thread may have
