Hi

I am looking for a pair of large-ish speakers on the second hand
market.

Can anyone suggest a pair suitable for listening to music of all types?

Is it necessary to match the speakers to a particular amp? I have
nothing at all at the moment and have been reading about mission 753s
and Naim amps.

Sources would be mp3/CD and maybe even vinyl.

I cannot afford very expensive kit.

Regards

You can get a pair of Spendor BC1s for around £150. I've had a pair for 30
years and have no intention of changing them.

Agreed - superb speakers

Regards

I had a pair of EPOS ES14s and upgraded then to ES30s. EPOS need a good
amp to drive them but provide a very musical sound, suited to all types
of music and tastes. You can get these speakers on Ebay for very
reasonable amounts of money.

The larger speakers are well worth getting if you have the space -
enormous improvement in soundstage and bass extension.

There's a potential whole thread full of ad hominem vitriol, right there!

Stir, stir

The week before last I was demonstrated a small "full-range" semi-horn
loaded driver for the first time. In the face of such enthusiasm I felt
unable to say anything. I can understand the appeal of valve amplifiers
but this really has me baffled.

Stir, stir (but without the ad hominem bit being only an occasional
reader/contributor)
