Many prefer to listen - not look.

Interesting theory - all the evidence is against you though.... ;-)

Keith's plugging of the chinese amps makes him look like an agent
who financially gains by pluging a product.

Wacky as ever - replies to my post and refers to me in the third person!
(Lost his 9/16 Whitworth ring spanner again and is taking it out on me!!
:-)

I'm no 'agent' me old china (oops...) - I'm just a private puntah who thinks
that the veritable tsunami of cheap, cheerful Chinese audio gear that has
reached these shores is interesting, exciting, great fun and gonna do a lot
more to keep valves and valve gear available than the loopy greenhouse
heaters you will find on *commercial* sites like this:

http://www.turneraudio.com.au/htmlwe.../poweramps.htm

:-)

(Btw, I've heard it said that you are responsible for 37% of all the Global
Warming - is that right....?? :-)

Why bother spamming the group this way?

Well, it ain't like we're rushed off our feet in here and it's 'Show N
Tell' - it's what I do. (To brighten up the grey little lives that I suspect
one or two here are having... ;-)

What would you have me post then?

My Arcam [XYZ] is broken?

How do I get the smell of dog's **** off my Quad [ABC]...??

All cables sound the same?

I've got 8 quid to spend and I want to put together a complete hifi system
[then lists every item known to man]...??

All amps sound the same...??

DAB sounds ****e...??

DAB doesn't sound ****e??

I thought of eBay first, who do I see for my Royalties...??

All the chinese amps I have seen and repaired have serious design
shortcomings
that only the really knowledgeable ppl would understand.

Oh dear.... :-(

But don't you worry your mind over such issues.

No worries - I got another one due any time now:

http://www.bezdz.com/Dl/T3B-3.htm

The schematic's there (scroll down) - if you think the design is 'flawed'
feel free to educate me. I've got people queuing up to see pix of this amp
and wanting to hear my opinion of it. If it's ****e I'll damn soon say so -
I'm not 'pluging' anything....

(YHFL...!! :-)

How much is that gonna set you back, Keith? INCLUDING delivery, please.

I have much to report regarding my hi-fi recently, though probably not
much of actual interest to many here.

I have been busy installing, tweaking, listening, and enjoying.

Some things are good.

Some are not. My Pink Triangle PT TOO turntable motor is well on the
way out. It squeaks and squeals like a banshee. No, it's not the platter
bearing. It is the motor. It is not a happy motor.

Anyone know where to get a replacement? It's an AC synchronous motor.
Beyond that, I don't know what it is. I know Pink Triangle are no more,
but they must have bought in their motors from a well-known manufacturer
who's still around? Right? (Please say "Yes."!)

I might give a fuller report of my activity later, if I can be bothered
typing it all out!

Your amps look very nice Mr Turner, but lets face it anyone can make
themselves a GainClone for £50 and get something just as good and with the
added bonus of being able to tweak it themselves very easily.

Oh please.

That's such a lame response as to be risible.

What is your vested interest in these "gainclone" efforts?

For PT I've been in touch with Arthur wassisname (PT founder) - very
helpful. This site:

http://www.hifinews.co.uk/content/news.htm

should take you to an email address - let me know if it gets you
nowhere and I'll email you the address i've been using. Or you can try
Origin Live - v.expensive motors IMO.

Thanks; I'll check it out this weekend. Already came across OL on the net in
connection with this. I'll try the address you suggest first.

Ok, anyone out there know where to get 6AS7 power valves (big ones, not
the silly flaccid-looking mini ones) to replace the hard-to-get ones
in my YaQin MC-10K valve amp? I've read that 6AS7 is a more common
equivalent, but I want the big sexy ones, not the crappy-looking mini
ones.

TIA muchly and stuff.

A GainClone is probably not a good sound-alike match for a
tubed amp.

If nothing else the source impedance of the GainClone is too
low to produce the *tube bigot manditory* audibly varying
frequency response with speaker load.

Putting a 0.5-4 ohm wirewound power resistor in series with
the speaker leads will make the GainClone a better
sound-like match for a tubed amp.

Based on current commercial practice with microphone
preamps, the addition of a number of strategically-placed
yellow and blue LEDs would also help with the *tweaked*
GainClone's illusion of "sonic warmth".

The final stage would be to add a heating element to the
*tweaked* GainClone.

Some enterprising individual will probably bring this idea
to market at some time in the future. I'm guessing that his
nationality will be Chinese, as they can be clever and
enterprising folk.
