Hi,

Has anyone else noticed that the forums area from the Cambridge Audio
website has disappeared today?

Hopefully this is just a technical issue - there were a number of really
good questions about the new 640H hard-disk server which CA could do with
answering...

Any response from CA regarding this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I was in RS Sheffield a couple of weeks ago - they're as in the dark
as everyone else concerning the HD CD - 'maybe stuck in a boat between
here and China' was their best bet. Ther latest I heard was a
software/iPod connection problem, and testing may go on until xmas.

Hah!

Same boat as my sodding amp then!

Earlier today, I chased up the 300B amp I'm expecting from HK and was told
it isn't even in the country yet - after 4 weeks!! (Reputable eBay seller
looking in to it...) I was pretty jarred off in a '**** that, never again'
sort of way until I learned that our piano tuner had died unexpectedly from
natural causes sometime recently.* He was younger than me - equilibrium
restored pdq I can tell you!! (Poor sod - nice enough bloke, if a little
dour....)

(Mine dew, don't get me started on the *un-****ing-believable* Porcel Farce
Worldwide 'Thank you for holding' malarkey or I'll end up joining him!!)

*Eat, drink, play records and be merrie moi beauties - for some of us life
*really is* that short, it seems.....!!

Quite right - a bit of perspective, it doesn't *really* matter ...

I have quite a problem with the industry - what's all this 'stay in all
day on the off chance we pop round with your parcel suitably mangled
through our pre-industrial handling systems'. Hmph, it does *sort of*
matter ;-)

Well, there we are, not that important after all :-)

I think the pathetic performance of major companies like Porcel Farce is
symptomatic of the Modern Era: superficially 'new and improved, computerised
and digitised' - *crap* in reality....

I have mentioned here before that I once asked my grandfather what was
*really* better than when he were a lad and he said 'cheese and beer'!!
(Which were a lot less variable, apparently....!!)

So he was a relatively happy old bunny with few complaints! ;-)

Ah - that's pretty poor... A number of people (myself included) have been
waiting for the release of the 640H since it was announced - which must've
been at the start of 2005..? (seems like an age now...)

As I've pointed out to Cambridge Audio on the forums, the specification of
the machine seemed pretty good - nearly a year ago. But now a 160GB hard
disk doesn't seem like much, especially given the fact that it doesn't
support Ogg. Ho hum.

Seems like a wasted opportunity. The 640H could've been so much better...
