Instead of just making your sound louder, you might want to try the newer
design headphones, which sit deeper in your ear. It takes a bit of getting
used to, but is very effective at blocking outside noise and sound is the
best without carrying round full sized cans!

My main criteria though is not loudness but sound quality of the
player; so in-ear bud-type headphones won't do anything to fix an
unmusical player. I'm also partial to my Jensen's and Koss Porta
Pro's. They're 'full sized cans' and although I don't mind wearing my
bud headphones, there aren't any that I've heard that can match the
type and quality of sound offered by the over ear headphones.
