That cable at Maplin is 69p/metre, for 79-strand. Gale XL-105 at Richer is 79p/metre. 105-strand OFC. I stand corrected, after popping into Richer Sounds yesterday. XL-105 is in fact 69p/metre. So exactly the same price. I would recommend this over the Maplin 79-strand stuff for several reasons. 1. It sounds better. (I've used the Maplin stuff in the past, it's ok, but not as good as the XL-105.) 2. It's more flexible. 105 strands as opposed to 79. 3. It's easier to fit banana plugs onto it. 4. It looks cooler. If you happen to want a lot of high quality speaker cable, CPC do some 105-strand OFC cable for about £20 for a 100m drum. As far as I can ascertain it's the same stuff as the Gale XL-105, just has a different name printed on it. I've got a few rolls of that kicking around, very useful for in-car stuff and running through the ceiling so you can put up surround speakers without having trailing wires everywhere. -- Glenn Richards Tel: (01453) 845735 Squirrel Solutions http://www.squirrelsolutions.co.uk/ IT consultancy, hardware and software support, broadband installation |
