What's good and bad about dome midrange speakers?

Thanks, Ian

What's good is that they generally have a wider pistonic range than
cone midranges. What's bad is that they are generally very expensive,
e.g. the classic ATC and Yamaha drivers.

I don't know if it's as simple as a type of speaker being
either good or bad, but one of the best mid range
drivers I've heard (one of the ATC units) is very, very
good, which probably means there's nothing inherently
wrong with the approach. I'll bet there are some real
dogs out there too though!

Regards,

Glenn.

It's all about money. There have been cheap domes, and expensive domes, and
in-between domes. You tend to get what you pay for, but you seem to tend to
pay more for it if its implemented as a dome.

Thanks all.

They seem to be a bit of a fashion, so I guess there will be good examples and
bad. Just wanted to check that the whole notion isn't hype.

If production expense is the only problem, it may reduce in time.

cheers, Ian
