Default TV setup for audio

I'm thinking of combing my tv/dvd/sky digibox/hi-fi system into one.

Could I buy an amplifier, connect my dvd player to that and have a pair
of floorstander speakers either side of the TV? I'd use this like a
hi-fi seperates system for playing cd's, mp3's.

I get digital radio (I know its limitations) and would like to get that
through the amp & speakers but without having the tv on. Could I get
the sky box to connect to the amp? It is presently connected up as
skybox-dvd-TV. Could I then go skybox-dvd-amp-speakers? This would
give me audio from sky but with no need to have the tv (picture) on. I
think.

Any comments/help appreciated.
