For me this is easy. I assume that the artists who made the records
knew what they wanted to present to me as a listening experience. I
use equipment that makes as good a job of that as is possible.
That leads to the *dreaded* accuracy and sonic transparency as goals.
IOW, uncolored reproduction. ;-)
Fine, whoopy doo and all that, then what do you do with it?
Play it how?
Obviously, use the most neutral and uncolored room and speakers that you
can. Or, completely bypass the room thing with headphones or earphones.

Let's face it, if that was ever going to work *anywhere* - Essex is the
place to try it!! :-)
OK, just *one* Essex Girl joke then:
Tracy's ditched her white XR3 convertible and is laying in a bloody heap.
The ambulance guy says 'Doan worry darlin', we'll soon 'ave yer patched up
and sorted aht! Nah, where ya bleedin' from....??'
She says 'Billericay'.....

The role of 'fake science' in audio
Valve users do so because the sounds they hear are closer - to their
ears - to the original sound.
And who are they to say ? Typically they're a bunch of deaf old fogeys.
There was an old codger it seems
Who used up paper in reams
In a frenzy to prove
What went on in the groove
Was a vinyl bigot's deluded dreams
He later got started on tubes
Declaring, as he fondled his pubes,
"Those that like that foul sound
Modern science confound"
Just one more in his series of boobs
