Default R3 bitrates

Have just heard on today's R4's Feedback that, following complaints during
the Proms, R3 is being put back to 192 kb/s; unless broadcasting R5 forces
it & R4 down to 160 kb/s.
(Hope I've got that correct!)

Seems that the new encoding equipment has been found to be less good than
hoped for.

Well, the R3 bitrate on DAB went back up to 192kb/s some days ago.

....and R4 is normally 128kb/s, not 160.

Yes, R4 will also drop, but from a lower base.

What was NOT specified was the transmission schedule of R5. If it's
always going to be live, we've gained nothing.

And quite a few complaining that it doesn't sound like 192K over on
alt.radio.digital

joint stereo I believe....


...and R4 is normally 128kb/s, not 160.
