I've misplaced the manual to an AIWA NSX-5777 music centre.

What is the purpose of the Line Out sockets, is Line Out an
unamplified signal as opposed to the various speaker outputs which I
assume are amplified.

Line Out is a signal at line level which is *unaffected* by the
amplifier's
Tone, Volume, Balance &c. controls and is used to feed a 'Slave Amplifier'
or active subwoofer as in page 6 of this .pdf manual for the currently
available Acoustic Solutions SP101 amplifier:

So the line out could actually go to some battery operated computer
type speakers.

Only if they have some sort of amplification...??

There's a couple of other sockets I'm not too sure about;

below is a link to an image of the sockets,

What are the MD sockets for.

That's a little bit confusing as I would guess the Video/Aux and MD (line
level) to be inputs.

If the Line Out sockets do not provide a line level signal to another
amplifier/recorder/whatever then they are possibly an input for another
gadget's Line Out sockets, IYSWIM - poor labelling or poor grouping, I would
say, but you are unlikely to do any great harm if you have a bit of a poke
about with another source....??

Volume control set very low, of course....

Line out is to feed to another appliance - in this case since it has
an input for Mini-Disc then it is safe to assume that the output is
intended to permit recording of whatever source is selected on the
music centre.

Indeed.

The service sheet is on http://www.eserviceinfo.com
Search for NSX-A777

MD is an line-level input for a MiniDisc.
Line-Out connects to the pins of a chip which are labelled 'rec out'.

I did numerous searches and couldn't find a thing :-(((

Problem donloading though, the instruction says 'Attention! This
manual is multipart. Download all, before decompressing' but the
download only says Part1 and a RAR extension, whatever that is.

There are two parts to the document.

AIWA-NSX-A777-S777-A767.part1.rar
AIWA-NSX-A777-S777-A767.part2.rar

download the first by clicking the link "To download the file, please,
download the second by clicking the '1' link next to the word
"Multipart:" and then do the same.

Go here for the Unrar.exe utility, which will turn the two files into a PDF.
