Default Audacity and Echoes

Rolo - thank you for that suggestion. However when I do that I find
that Audacity isn't picking up any audio at all. It needs to capture
the input/output from the sound card not the mic. Turning the mic off
means that nothing is captured at all. I'm begining to think that
there is something wrong with the sound card. Cheers - Chris B.

I'm trying to capture streaming audio from Radio 7. I have a Toshiba
Qosmio with sound card. it has Windows XP MCE. I'm using Audacity
but the only input options are Line In / Mixed / Mic. Unfortunately
when I try and record the audio stream this is played through the
built-in speakers, and the sound is then picked up by the in-built
mic. Whe played back the recording has extraneous noises and echoes
on it - from the mic. What I need is for Audacity to take the input
direct from the sound card. But I can't work out how to do this.
Please can someone help. Many thanks - SB.

Go into your windows sound panel, click on advanced,
options, properties, Recording and set the microphone slider to zero.

You could try turning the PLAYBACK volume of the mic to zero on the mixer,
that way you can still use it as an input but won't hear it out of the
speakers (therefore no feedback/echo).
