Default Faulty Arcam DV88 - Repair or Replace?

Hello all!

I have a 7-year old Arcam DV88. I've posted before to say that it freezes
on the odd DVD, but it seemed to improve marginally after a clean.

Now, however, it's developed a more serious fault - it won't play CDs (and
it's my main CD player). It's OK from cold, but only for about 5 minutes,
after which it doesn't recognise CDs (it says "No disc"), and discs that are
already in stop playing. DVDs still play, however.

I'm guessing that it's a fault with the drive as failure to recognise or
play a disc is accompanied by a frenzy of whirring.

The question is, is it worth repairing? Would I be better to cut my losses
and buy a new CD and/or DVD player? Is there an updrade that could be
purchased that would replace the drive?

All opinions welcome!

Andrew
