I assume it's what they found out in practice a few years ago. You
can't fully synchronise too many combinations of:

[snip]

So TV and radio broadcasts of the Proms seem now to be deliberately well
separated to avoid complaints of poor synchronisation.

I have assumed it is because they now have the equipment to 'time shift'
the broadcast, and so do for convenient sheduling. Maybe it would also
allow some flexibility in case they want to snip out some of the 'padding'
in the interval should the concert run a few mins late.

Yes - I was speculating on the technical issues but these are also
good reasons.

Whatever, I watched/listened again yesterday afternoon to the recording I'd
made, and once again found it enjoyable. This time I enjoyed the Elgar
more. Pleased that my new recorder seems to have done a decent job.

I too have and like the Du Pre / Barbirolli Elgar cello concerto on disc.
But I found the opening night version very good, so presumably I am not
too acclimatised to that "classic" recording.

Nevertheless I often find I AM acclimatised to performances and styles
of playing that I have heard in the past. Sometimes, with new versions
of familiar music or new pieces, I find it takes the second hearing for
me to appreciate the alternative musicality. So I tend to refrain from
judging performances too quickly (and indeed the same principle applied
when I was last selecting audio kit).

Looking forwards keenly to the other proms. :-)

Indeed. The Rameau last night was highly enjoyable. I can just imagine
something similar being performed at the French court of the time.

And then there's Wagner on 12th August to anticipate and many more to
savour ...
