I'm going on a coach trip to Germany soon and am thinking of getting an
MP3 player to take with me. I'm fussy about sound quality so I'm after
recomendations on which players have the best sound quality. I'm not
wanting to spend too much though as it might not get used again probably
£100 maximum. Can anybody offer any advice or should I just stick with my
old cd walkman?

mp3 sound quality is an oxymoron.

My advice is stick to your cd walkman.

Yeah I realise that mp3 is obviously less than cd quality (no matter what
some people would have you believe), but its a trade off between carrying a
load of cds with a fairly large player to having something that easily fits
in your pocket. I have mp3'd nearly all my cd collection at a high quality
level and listen to them on a daily basis in the car. So I accept mp3 will
never be as good as the cd but I'm willing to compromise a little for
convenience, but the player can make a huge difference to the end result
which is why I'm after opinions on which ones are better. For instance my
Alpine head unit in the car does an outstanding job of playing my mp3s yet
the same mp3s played in other players have had a kind of lifeless sound.
