Default mixing two CD sources question

Hi all from a newbie to this group.

I have a CD player playing background music into a set of speakers
around my office.

I want to play a CD that is made up basically of silence mixed with
an announcement that comes up every ten minutes - though the same
speakers at the same time as the music.

Can I just get a small walkman and connect it to the speakers in
parallel ?

NO - you need to feed the output of both units (The CD Players) into a
device called a mixer. These are avalible quite cheaply for what you
want to do from Maplins. You don't need to spend any more than £40 I
would guess.I am assuming here that both CD players are stand alone
units and not part of a music centre (Blimey - that's an old gadget
now !!) or mini hifi system. The output from the mixer is then fed into
your amp.
So you have :
CD player + CD player into Mixer into Amp into Speakers.

You will have to listen to judge the volumes on the mixer between the
2 cd players,as you will want the announcements to be louder than the
music. You may also have continuous play on one of the cd players so
you won't have to keep restarting the announcement cd.Let me know how
you get on.]
