Default Naim NAIT 3 -- upgrade

Okay, here's the deal: I have a Naim NAIT 3, a SNAPS power supply, a
42.5 pre-amp and a budget of approx £500. I want to maximise on the
Naim kit I have, what upgrades, trades are appropriate.

I have a pair of Mk1 Castle Severns and listen to mostly modern rock.
like the NAIT 3 sound but would be looking for a bit more ooomph and
openness in the sound.

I'll now wait for the brick-bats but hopefully in there there'll be
some good advice.

Many thanks.

Olly

Can't speak for anyone else, but I haven't been able to comment for two
reasons:

1) I am not a fan of Naim, and don't really know how you would "maximise on
the Naim kit" for 500 quid. If you wish to change the sound but keep the
amps, I would change something else - e.g. the speakers. If you wish to
simply trade up for newer Naim kit, then I assume your best bet is to
approach a dealer or someone who would do part exchange.

2) Not clear what change would produce "a bit more ooomph" or "openness" as
I don't really know what you mean in terms of something like the properties
of a speaker or an amplifier. If you said you needed more power, or a
different frequency response, or different loudspeaker dispersion it might
make suggesting a change easier. My (admittedly ancient) understanding of
Naim amps is that they tended to have a tailored frequency response, and an
output impedance that can also alter the response in a loudspeaker
dependent manner. So if you need a change in response the amp may need
changing. But if you require the new amp to be a modern Naim one I have no
experience of them, so can't comment.

Slainte,

Jim

Seems like a subwoofer would turn the trick. I don't know the UK speaker
market that well, so I won't make a specific recommendation.

Jim, Arny, thanks for the responses, I'll ponder.
