Acoustic Solutions SP101 stereo amplifier £59.99 from Argos -
questions:
1. Comments and experiences?
2. Does it have a headphone output?
All comments will be read gratefully.
Thanks
I bought the Argos Acoustic Solutions matching '3 piece suite'
(Amp/CD/DAB) to investigate them:

The amp is very well featured with 'digital everything' all controlled
by the one knob and it does have have headphone socket.
Plenty of information he

Not that pretty lights bother me (as in I don't need them) its a shame
that AS can't get the same colour displays for each of their items of
kit.

I've seen a couple of reviews when i was looking for a new amp
that mentioned hiss. This lad's review gives you a rundown of
what to expect, mentioning the headphone socket (full size) and
has some positives aswell as negatives.

Malcolm, do you think you could have a poke around your news reader
settings? Quoted text is coming out as being written by you, and
your writings are appearing in your signature section. You may
need to re-install the whole thing.

Yes I noticed that don't know why, my posts are usually ok.. The
quotes it this are correct aren't they?
OE Quotefix would probaly be useful to you.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/oequotefix.html
That is a fix for a different problem.
It also fixes the problem Malcolm is experiencing. I'm using it right now.

Yes and, if you closely, you will see that the drawer doesn't close too
prettily either - small details that spoil an otherwise inexpensive and
useful bit of kit (plays MP3 Cds) that wouldn't take a lot to sort out!

Oh yeah.
How does it compare with the 63MkII for sound quality? I've never come
across anything that matches those Marantz players for warmth it their
price level.

Using the Marantz' own internal attenuation and juggling pause buttons
to perfectly time align and level match the same CD (CD and copy
thereof) in both players the sound was *indistinguishable* from one
player to the other. A number of different people here (3 or 4?) simply
couldn't tell which player was playing at any time, even when I switched
back and forth (seamlessly) on the various amps I used - no ifs or
buts - 100%!!
Consequently, I shunted the Marantz out on eBay and the AS CDP now
resides in my overflowing 'spares cupboard'..!!
It's possible, of course, the rest of my kit may have masked differences
that other kit might have shown up but I seriously doubt it....
Nope, no illusion. All CD players costing more than £1.75 now sound
perfect. There is no such thing as a high end CD player any more.

Thats very interesting. Thanks for the detailed reply Keith.
I myself have a Liteon DVD/HDD doing the CD player MP3 stuff and I
really couldn't tell much difference (if any) over my Marantz. The
only reason I kept it was because it was a CD recorder which I
sometimes use when I dust down some old vinyl and decide I want it
'more readily available'
Cheers

Agreed. When I mentioned the comparison here a while back there was a
reaction from someone who said the internal attenuation in the Marantz
wouldn't be doing the output any favours, but just using it normally (no
attenuation at all) on various kit combinations never once led me to
believe the sound was discernably different to the AS CDP or any of the
DVDPs I use to play CDs!!

See my reply to Don - when I play a CD these days (don't do it often but
I have a 'spate' from time to time) I do so on a Pioneer DVD player
which doubles up for movies (unsurprisingly). If anyone asked me what
was the *best* player I have here I would have to say there's really no
difference between them but, for some strange reason, I always find the
Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD Single Disc Recorder particularly pleasing to
use - maybe it's the superquick drawer...??
(Usually, if a bit of kit stands out above the others it's because it's
a little bit louder!! :-)

Suggestion. Use a decent browser !
You could worse than use a decent newsreader too. OE is rubbish.
