A cigarette end can destroy a dry rag or paper. I couldn't get any flames but there was plenty of smoke and a red glow. So the problem in the hypothetical depot is that someone let the rags dry out. :-) OK, I'm going to try this in a little while - I didn't see a petrol forecourt yet without a 'No Smoking sign' on it! I *know* you can extinguish a cigarette in diesel, but I can't say from first hand that a cigarette would *definitely* set fire to a petrol-soaked rag! Maybe a little movie? We'll see - could be fun...!! :-) Actually, it was a bit of a non-event and the ciggie *didn't* set the rag on fire!! I did - with a lighter at the end of this clip which I buggered up fishing for the lighter while I was squatting down! http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show...Experiment.wmv (Not small at 12 Meg!!) |

If you start one in darkness and look you'll see sparks from the starter motor commutator and also from the dynamo if it's on full charge. So for safety it should be pushed well clear of the pumps before starting. -- *I don't suffer from insanity -- I'm a carrier Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |

No I'm not - that shop is no worse than some of the other St Neots shops I've had dealings with. They've had a captive (Fenland) market for a century and they have grown fat exploiting the ignorance/transportation difficulties of their clientele. Every area has it's good and bad points. I'm sure the quality of life is nice and tranquil in the Fens. Unfortunately, there's a price to pay for living away from civilisation. Pay up or move, I say. |

I still think you are Keira, but I'll address the point you are making - you are suggesting the sales guy asks the customer if he is from 'out of town' and hits him with a surcharge if the answer's 'yes' then? |
