The original arm tubes for the early Mission 774 were like that. Later when
cartridges came out that had tapped threads in them (Dynavector Ruby &
Diamond may have been the first) they made an arm tube that allowed fixing
bolts to be inserted from the top down into the cartridge body. I know, I
still have both.
