Agreed. That's the way I've transferred some of my tapes. As someone
else said though, it's a time-consuming process.
Audacity is good for the money (none whatsoever), but there are programs
out there which will automatically split recordings into tracks by
"listening" for silence between songs. This will result in "proper" CDs
which allow you to skip from track to track. Steinberg produce a program
which will do the above and will also remove clicks and pops (and up to
a point hiss) before generating the CD.
All the above can be done in Audacity - possibly better, but it's a
manual process which takes some time and knowledge to achieve.
