I've just bought an internet radio in Comet for £39
I can't find such a beast on Comet's web-site. What model?

Magicbox "Imp". I don't see it on their website either, so maybe it was
a last-of-line sale item in that particular store. There may still be a
few left in some stores, or if not there seem to be plenty of
equivalent things - just Google search for "internet radio".

Dunno.
Maplin have an "external DAB active aerial" for sale at the moment for
£30. It looked neat and claimed 23dB gain so it would have been
appropriate for my location where a 7dB gain array provides good
reception.
The sales assistant said to me "You know this doesn't qualify for our 14
day money back warranty?"
"Oh, why is that?"
"Well, basically they don't work."

Heh heh. That's what I quite like about Maplin - they do have some
characters working for them. Even some pretty knowledgeable ones -
although you can't guarantee it.
I must admit to paying out serious money for an active DAB aerial for the
car - which transformed the reception. It's now much better than FM
around London.

It's an external mount folded dipole type with F-type connector on the

Why on earth did they decide on the F-type connector for DAB aerials, it
is a total pain to connect and is a matter of trial and error to get a
good connection why didn't they go for BNC?

when BNC connectors first appeared we thought the abbreviation stood for
B***** Nasty Connector. Unless you can find crimp ones, and they have to
be the correct ones for the cable size, they re very difficult to assemble
correctly - and the cost quite a bit more, too.

There are crimp less types - if they're still made. With a universal cord
grip. Think there are also screw on types these days too.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten thin ethernet. Crimp-on's are fine if you use a good
quality tool, same with RJ45's. What I *really* want to know though is
why the **** did our company IT dept only buy yellow patch cables..? How
am I supposed to decide which cable in the spider's web under my desk is
the printer..?!

And that can stand rough handling? ;-)
