I have heard the difference - between bell wire[1] and Proper Stuff. And
it's worthwhile extra expenditure. But IMHO mains cable is sufficiently

Be interested to know if your comparison was done in a level matched
comparison, and with a protocol that also excluded other well-known factors
that can easily cause audible differences but have zero to do with the
cable. Also what level of statistical significance your results had if
your method permitted this.

As you may know, various comparison tests have shown that human hearing
is affected by being exposed to sound, so even the same sound played twice
will tend to sound different on the second occasion to the first. This is
so even ignoring other factors like slight head movements, etc. For this
reason it is easy to do a test that produces a 'difference' for reasons
that are not those assumed unless the comparison is appropriately done.

I have occasionally heard 'differences' which correlated with simple things
like excessive resistance or inductance. Also examples of where a cable
caused the amp to oscillate. Otherwise, any 'differences' turned out to
either evaporate when checked, or seemed to be for other reasons which
didn't involve the cables.

As above. :-)

Nonono, some amplifiers sound *different*. This is not, of course, the
same as better or worse.

Same with cables, if they do actually sound different, of course.
