Better tell the Japs, then - they've been buying them up
for decades!!

A great help to our balance of payments. We're selling them junk and they
are paying the big bucks. Works for me!

The problems are twofold. Firstly, nobody knows about Usenet mainly because

Secondly web forums have taken over.

rec.audio.pro and alt.steinberg.cubase are lively enough.
alt.music.home-studio has bursts of useful activity. I pop in to
uk.rec.audio occasionally, pop out again when I see it's still
dominated by the same few idiots having slanging matches.

Possibly sensing a vacancy for an all-round Smartarse in the vacuum now left
by the very recent demise of the late, great (but somewhat odious/tedious)
Clement Freud, another lurker breaks cover and runs wildly between the
bunkhouse and cowshed, firing smug platitudes from the hip....

(He's got a point though - *refined abuse* is so much better in a civilised
society, even if it's nothing like as entertaining...!! :-)

They do?

Yes.

If that's your idea of 'good sound' you must have stopped
auditioning decent hi-fi over 30 years ago.

Don't beat me up - I ain't the one buying them!

They are laughable.

People collect antique guns too. But not to use.

The Colt 45 Automatic was first issued in 1911 - plenty of those still in
use today!

Probably because secondhand audio is generally vastly outperformed
by
more recent and inexpensive gear.

I don't believe it is, once you get past the lowest quality (toy)
items
and 'classic' stuff (old Tannoys, for example) still makes good money.

Old Tannoys stink !

The Japs have weird hearing. That's why Yamaha set up an R&D lab in London which
I was actually invited to join some 30 yrs ago.

I've found the two audio sites I use - DIY Audio and
Audio Asylum - are very much going strong with no
noticeable change. Good news, since they're both very
good.

The lack of intelligent life in either forum is pretty remarkable. If you
actually believe what you read there... LOL!

Moderated forums are for intelligent people who can actually carry out
meaningful conversations.

Newsgroups like this and RAT have long since been deserted by most
intelligent life, though a few brains still attempt to wade through
the rubbish constantly served up by farts like Krude-ger.

I visit here about once a month. Clearly once too often.

There is a serious point here though. carefully chosen invective is more
effective than blind obscenities.
