My understanding is that Hollands would supply a box of so many rounds

(50?
100?) of 600NE with a rifle (perfectly matched to the sighting, of

course)
and would consider anyone who ordered 'more' to be a bit of a
psycho........?

Interesting. I hadn't really considered that, but I guess you don't
ever need to 'sight in' that kind of weapon,

Ultimately, of course the rifle is 'sighted' to the ammo, usually by means
of filing the rearsight (frequently a 'falling leaf' design) by hand and eye
(what else?).....

I'm thinking of double rifles, which are set for convergence at a
particular (pretty short!) range.

Which reminds me of an interesting anecdote* - if I have my facts right, I
gather the correct match of .303 ball with the SMLE Mk ?? (3? 4?) puts that
weapon 'spot on' at both 100 and 300 yards, due to the trajectory of the
round. Clever eh?

You can do that for any two ranges. The round will be a couple of
inches high at 200 yards, but for the average squaddie, that's
probably a good battlefield setting.

you'd definitely have
to be a pretty intensive hunter (or a pro) to fire more than 50 such
rounds at appropriate game.

Or a very rich one.

I doubt that the cost of ammunition is above the noise floor of
financing a 'big 5' safari! What's an elephant licence now, $50,000?

Anyone not doing this for a living, who
*needed* more than 100 rounds, should probably not be allowed out
without his guide dog! :-)

I don't think the quarry would cut you enough slack to be able to go and get
one.

You miss the point. You feed the dog to the quarry while you leg it!

:-)
