Default What causes this effect.

I have noticed of late that some bbc I player talk only shows have a gritty
gurgle that almost sings along with the loudness of the speech. Its some
kind of digital effect, yet some files of the same compression type have it
while others do not.
Its as if the max level is going into clipping in a kind of very fast
cyclic fasion.
I did wonder if somewhere the content has been lossy compressed more than
once along the way, making the losses compound each other.
Back in the early days of mp3 you used to hear this effect and on early DAB
half sample rate transmissions as well.
Its irritating once you hear it, you cannot unhear it so to speak!
