Bloody hell Jon Strong, 1992, I was running a pub in Sowerby Bridge
(Halifax), we had several music nights, and for two of them we had Jon
on, they were V Good, wonder where they are now..

He has a web site:

http://www.jonstrong.com/

And is playing in Leeds on Sunday 7 December 2003:

Nice to know he is still going, I remember being told he had signed to
Linn, but nothing after that. I remember it was a great gig, both times
he played the pub. Huge PA (small pub) but rearly good quality sound.

As always, I can only answer this in terms of the last five I've
listened to -- otherwise we'll get to 500 rather than 5 :-)

Grateful Dead "Dick's Picks 30" (NYC, 3/25 & 28/72)
String Cheese Incident "Outside Inside"
King Crimson "LIve In Guildford, 11/13/72" (KC Collectors Club #24)
Little Feat "Down Upon The Suwannee River"
Van Morrison "What's Wrong With This Picture"

That's a good idea ....

Prince - Emancipation 3 CD set (still counts as one)
Sarah McLachlan - Afterglow
Kate Rusby - Underneath the Stars
REM - Automatic For the People
Equation - The Lucky Few

ah hell ... make it the half dozen ...

Kealer - My Worst Enemy

That's out of the 29 currently in around my CDP and computer desk. Tidy up
time.

I've just ordered the new Sarah Mclachlan off Amazon, so glad to hear
it's one of your favourites.

BTW, the first 'Equation' CD (the unreleased line-up with Cara Dillon as
well as Kathryn) is now out. Very good. (I think 'The lucky Few' is
the poorest of the three, but that might be because of the atrocious
recording quality that has been commented on many times in other
places.)

Sounded a bit disappointing on the first few listens, say compared to
'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' but after about half a dozen or so more spins I
started to get into it a lot more. IMO she should try a different producer
next time (let hope that's not another 4 year wait) the Pierre Marchand
association is wearing a bit thin. Maybe Daniel Lanois producing and
contributing could add some new magic.

BTW, the first 'Equation' CD (the unreleased line-up with Cara Dillon as

The new one 'First Name Terms' also features Cara on vocals and the rest of
the Lakeman bros. Haven't heard that one yet.

If you like Cara Dillion then her own two solo albums are excellent. Of
course I would say that, considering ... both these have the Lakeman's
connection as well.

Yes, I've got those. The second one is especially good. (Can't get
occasional Kate Bush comparisons out of my mind! Strange for a Northern
Irish folkie)

Very true, The recording is totally dull and lifeless, which is a pity as
the musical content IMO is very good, albeit a bit Fleetwood Mac in parts.

If you like this sort of stuff (female vocals) have you tried the Poozies?

Not keen on them, nor on Kate Rusby's work really.

Do you know the Welsh band 'Fernhill'? Very Breton influenced but very
competent and innovative.

I only have 'Whilia' but have ordered their other three CDs from Amazon.

BTW what is wrong with CDWOW ?? ... Sarah McLachlan and many more all 8.99
post free. Usually within 48 hours.

Never heard of CDWOW. I'd better find out straight away!

Do you know any of the Scandinavian folk-influenced bands? Garmarna and
Gjallarhorn are worth listening to.

Same here. I've got far too many faves to pick just 5.

snip - Julian's list

May be a few unknowns to some of you.

Brant Bjork - Keep Your Cool
Screaming Trees - Dust
Orquesta del Desierto - s/t
Mistress - II: The Chronovisor
The Four Horsemen - Nobody Said It Was Easy

honorary mention to...
Lard - The Last Temptation Of Reid (thanks to Keith G)
: )
