Just to be different, I own on vinyl probably over 25 of the albums he
http://www.iclassics.com/iclassics/catalog_line_detail.jsp?catalogLineId=33

One minute samples seem to be available for every track, a nice surprise.

Unfortunately that list is sorted by title rather than artist;- (my purpose
in posting is to encourage the exploration of new genres, and in particular
ECM jazz - some favourites, which may show further artists works, might be:)

Bass Desires (and also Marc Johson's Bass Desires - Second Sight )
(almost any album by each of the individual artists on those two is great)
Pat Metheny Group [ anything of his on ECM, rather than the later Geffen]
Rypdal: Blue [Terje Rypdal] (nice bass on Blue & I Disremember)
tread carefully - his guitar sound can be a bit much for some in some;-)
Special Edition [Jack De Johnette] (anything with JdeJ on usually)
Saluzzi: Andina [Dino Saluzzi] Included just to show how amazingly
captivating and inventive a solo bandoneon can be. I have several of his.
Weber: Orchestra [Eberhard Weber] (fantastic acoustic bass player)

Many others ... any decent record store should have an ECM section!

Hope this makes a change from the usual pop pap... ducks( ;=})

If ECM, and especially Eberhard Weber, is what grooves your truffles, then
it's probably worth your while seeking out some of Jan Gabarek's stuff.
'Twelve moons' or 'Legend of the seven dreams' are the best introductions.
You might also get on with David Torn's 'Cloud about mercury'.

Many others ... any decent record store should have an ECM section!

Quite so - and if it doesn't, is it really decent?

And it's always good to hear Eberhard Weber's distinctive playing on the odd
Kate Bush track too. Does he crop up anywhere else that I wouldn't expect
to find him?

One IMHO to look out for is "Bright Size Life" with Pastorious on bass.

I've just been watching the Joni Mitchell 'Shadows and Light' convert
movie - with Metheny and Pastorious (plus Lyle Mays and Don Alias).
Contains an awesome bass solo in which Jaco uses a delay to build up
circling lines of bassness. Well worth checking out for any Jacophiles
