Just had an amusing thought about what you could do with a lubricated bridge ;-)

Fact is: You've (hopefully) used your ears and brain and decided that all
TosLink cables sound the same. I did the same, maybe with other products,
and came up with a different result.

I found that different optical cbales sound different.
I compared a 5 quid cheapo cable between CD player and amp
with a computer grade 50/125 micron multimode fibre.
There was complete silence from the latter!

Next test: some translucent strimmer cable from B&Q. :-)

For some real cable specs, look at item XR56L
at http://www.maplin.co.uk - £1.49 per metre.
I might try it when I want a 10m length between rooms.

We *do* use our own ears. You seem to need your eyes.............

(Wars were fought for because of people not agreeing to "minority" views).

Bull****. Wars are fought for political expediency, and for scarce
resources like oil.

For example, Hitler oppressed the gypsies, blacks and homosexuals
before he oppressed the Jews, but the first three groups didn't
control Hollywood..........

Of course, that's so thoroughly tied up that no one is allowed to make
such comments these days, vide the hounding of Kilroy-Silk by the BBC,
which *used* to be considered as the bastion of free speech, and
entirely free from political,influence..............

Sure, his comments about Arabs were in many ways puerile and ignorant,
but instead of just laughing at his ignorance, the BBC panicked and
pulled his show. This is not a good sign in what is supposed to be the
birthplace of democracy and civil liberty.

And if you want to call me a dork, fine - if that helps you.

It does seem to fit. BTW, dorks who are too scared to use their real
names don't get too many brownie points in this forum.

Not a problem as it's always been a pre-condition that there's a third
party observer acceptable to both 'sides'.

That's because you are probably already smitten with the idea that most
cables sound the same.

That would be due to the combination of basic theory and practical
experience which shows that this is the case.

While I think that they can make a system sound different.

I can't be responsible for what's inside your head! :-)

Neither of us might be willing to actually "give in" our views even if it
was demonstrated that either of us was wrong.

WRONG! I will be most happy to revise my views if any *evidence*
emerges which proves that some cable materials and/or construction
actually does make an audible difference. After all, I too used to be
a 'true believer' (hence some of my more 'exotic' cables), before I
proved to myself that they really didn't make *any* audible
difference.

This may be a crucial difference between us....................

So a third party it has to be.

But then who do we get?

Someone who knows about music and sound or a complete pleb who doesn't know
the difference between A minor and D flat?

So as much as I'd like to take up your kind offer, I don't think it's
workable.

Sure it is - just agree one someone acceptable to both of us. Their
skill level isn't relevant, only their impartiality, and their ability
to spot any flaws in the process.
