I think I have a review of the 250 somewhere, but have not yet been able to
find it. The following comments are therefore based on my recollection and
as such should be treated as unreliable! I may be thinking of a different
amplifier.

My recollection is that one review found the 250 to show some instabilty
with some loads. This surprised me as the valve amps were well designed in
this respect, hence it has stuck in my mind. Can't recall anything else at
present. Also bear in mind that such reviews often contain errors of
'fact', so even if I am recalling correctly, the 'instability' may have
been due to an error by the reviewer.

Sorry I can't recall anything more useful. If I can find the review or
other info I'll reply again later...

if so please email me

I have a copy of a review by Hirsch-Houck labs (from March 75!). They
seemed to rate the amp as the "dogs danglies", although there's no
mention of trying nasty loads.

I've been looking through the indexs I have, and have not been able to find
any sign of the review I had in mind. I'll keep looking, but I suspect my
recollections may well be from a review of something else. :-/ So probaby
best to disregard what I said unless/until I can find some actual data.

When was the HD250 actually appear on sale? I can't recall, and if I knew
this it might make looking easier.

Slainte,

I reckon it was probably late 1974 or early 1975

They appear in the HiFi Yearbooks from 1975 to 1978
- I have all the HFNRR for that period so I'll have a look when I get a
spare hour or three

Well, I have just looked (again) at the HFNRR 'annuals' for 1973-79 and
these do not include the Radford HD250 in the reviews they collect.

Most of my copies of HFNRR at 'at work', and those I have are not complete
prior to about mid 1975. However the HFNRR indexes I have for 1976-79 also
do not mention a review of the radford HD250.

I checked when the OP appeared, but could not find any mention. Hence
unless - I keep missing something - any HFNRR review should be in 1975 or
earler, and is omitted from the Annuals.

I've also looked in my earlier Hi Fi Yearbooks (1971 and previous) but
haven't seen a listing there, either. Alas, I have no yearbooks after 1971.

My (highly unreliable!) recollection is of seeing a review that may have
been in one of the other magazines. However I only have a scattered
selection of these with no collected indexes... :-/

Jim

OK, I've checked the indexes I have to hand for this period, but alas
haven't yet found a mention. :-/

I will check my non-HFNRR mags when I get a chance, but I'm not sure when
this will be possible...

Out of curiousity I also did a google but didn't find any actual data. Only
some links to eBay pages which seem to have changed since google spidered
them! :-)

Hi

I had one of these, from new, bought in 1976.
It was rated at 50W continuous, at less than 0.2% THD
and cost £185 plus VAT.

I thought it was good, but the Radford valve amps,
STA25 and STA100 which I still use were/are
greatly superior.

Iain
