Default Good sound quality portable.

My line of work means I have to travel quite a bit.
I'm looking for a portable player to listen to music in B&B/hotel room
etc.
I'm fine for in the car
Most of my music is vinyl though I've quite a lot of classical and
trance CDs, also listen to radio quite a bit.
Thinking maybe something that plays MP3s as well as CD and radio, clock
would be handy as well.
Transportability is the major issue.

Any recommendations?

Apple I-Pod with the biggest harddisk, then rip your cd's and copy
everything in .wav-format to the I-Pod, then you have the best soundquality.
Use a good headphone, not the standard crappy things.

40gb iPod. Use iTunes to rip your CDs to mp3 at 320kbps.

For hotel use, get the Altec Lansing iMotion speaker set - folds up into
it's own case; it includes an iPod dock so no cables needed to connect the
iPod

If you're going to use an iPod / iTunes then it's better to use AAC than
MP3.

If you're starting from scratch and planning to only use the iPod/iTunes you
might be right but, having done a comparison of MP3 and AAC I decided there
wasn't sufficient difference to warrant me re-ripping all my CDs.

In addition, sticking with MP3 allows the use of players other than iTunes.

Yeah, at such high bit rates as 320kbps then I doubt you'd be able to
tell the difference, but if someone can use AAC then it's better to use
it.

True, plus MP3 car stereos. But hopefully, over time, AAC will become
more widely supported. A lot of people even seem to think it's Apple's
own format, which it aint.

Really?? Blimey, I always assumed it was Apple's own format as well - I
live and learn! :-)
