Either of you happen to know how to get hold of a cheap SA ?
National Instruments. Who needs standalone instruments in 2004?
For lower-end PC stuff, the Pico Technology add-ons work well, and the
s/w to run them is free. Have a look at their website.

Sorry to break the thread.
But, Dave, where do you get those brilliant quotes?

Father was one for 30 years, I frequently meet people who call
themselves "sudio engineers" due to the business I'm in. I'm less than
impressed with the majority and amazed by a few.
Incidentally one doesn't need to be an audio engineer to see if one
can't do his job properly...
It probably looks pretty easy. Most jobs do to onlookers.
But try actually being in the hot seat, with
the entire LSO sitting the other side of the glass:-)

I should have been clearer.
One doesn't need to be a trained engineer to watch one ****ing up.
Have you had such an experience?
The
fact I'm not trained to do the job is immaterial, as is the fact I
probably couldn't do better.
Point taken.
But that's probably why I'm not an engineer of any sort (unless one
considers airbrushing out aging rock/jazz stars wrinkles as engineering
images)
No that's art, not engineering. But still an important part of the charade
which is the popular music business:-))
Nice lines from a Joni Mitchell song:
"I would go back there tomorrow,
but for this job I've taken on
stoking the star making machinery
behind the popular song"

Er, Mr lack of comprehension, I said "mainly" which differs considerably
from yur use of "only".
Try working out what the 'only' actually refers to.
If you wish a discussion group purely about recorded music, there are
plenty. As is there at least one for vinyl huggers.
When have I ever said this NG should be purely about recorded music.
Above? Or does 'mainly' not imply this is what you want?
Again, where did I mention "recorded music"?
How do you 'replay' something which isn't recorded?
It was once a useful place to come to gain insight into what was
available in the market place and to gain impartial reviews and
possible entries for prospective purchase shortlists.
Wouldn't that be better served by the many groups that do just this?
This is such a group, hence my choice.
But you choose to post here. Why?
Because I have a choice?
Indeed. However, 'audio' is accepted to be about sound or the
reproduction of it. Music is of course a part of that, but if you wish
to talk about that to the exclusion of all else, then perhaps use a
more suitable group?
Stop woffling, someone may accidentally think you know what you're
talking about.
No danger of that with you.

You'll probably find that many engineers are less than impressed with some
of the musicians they have to work with too. Life's a bitch that way.
Incidentally one doesn't need to be an audio engineer to see if one
can't do his job properly...
Or a musician to recognise a crap one of those.
Now just what exactly was your point?

Try figuring out that mine wasn't an absolute statement...
Then what makes you think mine was? Or do you think 'those with narrow
minds' and 'others' means everyone? Because it doesn't, nor was intended
to.

For an 'engineer' you don't listen to much live radio do you?
You have a remarkably poor understanding of English for one who spouts so
much. Replay means to repeat something. Therefore it has to be recorded.
If you'd said 'relay' that would have been perhaps what you really meant.
But who knows or cares?
