Default MP3 Players

The only comments I have read about MP3 players tend to come from
people who are listening to quite different kinds of music. What are
the views of people on this group about the sound quality of these
MP3 players? Any recommendations?

I listen to a whole range of stuff on my iPod - from heavier classical
(Mahler, Wagner, big choral masses etc) right through Be-Bop & modern jazz
to heavy rock with a bit of techno/hard house thrown in for good measure.
As long as you have a good quality rip using a decent MP3 encoder at a high
enough rate (I use 320kbps LAME MP3), it sounds fine. Most MP3 players come
with pretty crappy earphones so it's worth investing a few quid in a
replacement pair of earpieces.

I can happily listen to it for hours at a stretch in the car or when working

I apologise in advance for any offence caused :-)
