That does seem a reasonable scenario, perhaps it explains the macho posing, bitterness and spite? Now that *is* weird - I'm looking over Pinkypoof's shoulder (not binned while I have a bit of fun with him) at the little Molton Larva who *is* binned!! :-) How's it going Molton? - Slashed anybody to the ground with your rapier wit lately?? :-) (Hmmm, how will I see his reply...???) A few times the width of an ordinary drafting pen. I think that was the point - at the time they were just plotting these out on standard drafting plotters. IOW the tolerances werent really any better than a good mechanical watch (on the mask). Yes, but they shrunk the mask from about 6 foot on a side down to maybe 1/4 of an inch on a side - that's 288 times. The features were several pen line's width, but their location was within 1/1000 or so on the mask, and 1/288 of that on the chip. IME absolute locations within 1/10,000 of an inch are hard to maintain during the manufacture of mechanical parts (finishes can be smoother than that), but the IC's features were being etched with tolerances on the order of 4 millionths of an inch. I suppose the alignment mechanisms for the die would be far better quality than the mechs in the watch but I suppose its a question of how far back in the process you want to go ;-) While the step-and-repeat process is not as precise as the relative locations on each chip, its the relative locations on the chips that matter. |

"Stewart Pinkerton" wrote (Know much about 'repressed homosexuality' do you...??) As noted elsewhere, my first study was psy, not electronics. Oh yes, dearie, your basic psyche is no surprise.............. Hmm, kinda sums you up dunnit - an 'electronics expert' from a bit of Googling and a 'psychoanalyst' who can work from a few ng posts?? (It's called bull****ting on an *epic* scale, isn't it? :-) 'Dearie' again? :-) You seem to have a natural affinity with that tag. Well, it's quite clear that you do..... Shotgun wise, who cares who makes 'em, if they have their barrels stacked the wrong way? Now, if you were to put up a pair of Purdeys or H&Hs, that would be different! :-) Typical prattling of a truly clueless **** who's been Googling again.... My father left me a pair of damascus-barelled Purdeys, but I've always preferred H&H. Such is life. Pinkypoof, you should be world-famous if only a *fraction* of your bull**** was true. How come you got nothing better to do than spend all your free time in here? (But that's so *you* isn't it ? - Know it all, but know absolutely *****-all* when it really comes down to it.....) Bit like you with hi-fi, eh dearie? 'Dearie' again? :-) Seems to suit you so well, doesn't it? I was told I've got nice hands once.... :-) I've got a record for you (cleaned it and played it a few nights ago) - The Desert Song. (You'd like it, it's 'camp as coffee'.... :-) I do admit to a liking for Fry's Turkish Delight, but Valentino was quite magnificently hamming it up. Hamming or ramming? (What was your 'weekend name' again Pinkers, old thing?) Nice... :-) Near Cannes, isn't it? No idea - I always thought they were biscuits... Not so much as you appear to be, dearie. Thought I was 'binned'? I'm giving you a break. So why were you so worried, dearie? OK, you want the sordids - I was already separated when that pic was taken, I didn't want my missus (still married but still separated) to be hurt by an accidental viewing of that pic which, fortunately, never happened. OK? I spent the early part of the '80s working mostly in Arizona with Hughes Aircraft, the latter part of the '80s working all over this country in engineering consultancy with PERA, then spent most of the '90s 'doing it' in Ontario, Texas and Massachusetts with my own consultancy firm. Oh, that's a bugger - wheels fell off or summat? (Not surprised if you were trying to cover Ontario, Texas and Massachusetts, I'd have thought the travel costs *alone* would guarantee failure....?? :-) I wasn't paying them, you moron. You think not? No wonder you didn't last.... Actually, it would help if I could count. It's six weeks. You of course mean vegetating, and whining in front of your keyboard all day, not '52 weeks holiday'. The keyboards central here - I get to flop down at it any time I want. ;-) (Love the way you keep trying to wipe the 'whining' bogey off.... ;-) Good use? Last time you went away you sat around like an overcooked prawn, sweating your tits off wondering why TF you had bothered, didn't you? Nope, I travelled all over Crete, chatting to the locals and soaking in one of the world's oldest cultures, and made a couple of really nice new friends. Don't much care for the way they cook snails, though. Don't **** me Pinkypoof, last time I was in Crete we stayed at the top hotel in Ag Nick which was its own peninsula, where the current incumbent (another one) was swimming off the private beach (read broken slabs of concrete) and saw a turd bobbing along in front of her. The interior was tossed out worse than a WW2 Italian village after the Germans had left and the locals were more interested in flogging tablecloths, blue pottery and the greasiest fried eggs in the Northern Hemisphere than any deep and meaningful existentialist dialogue. Bought the missus (the real one) a nice embroidered tablecloth - it was the high spot of the holiday. Not as bleak as *your* pathetic existence, obviously.............. I reckon I have more laffs in a week than you do in a decade and I get to do whatever I want, whenever I want and *you* reckon that's bleak? I think you need to get your head fixed, Pinkypoof, before it gets beyond economic repair.... On that subject - tonight's viewing (80" screen, full s/s): Secret Window and/or Wisconsin Death Trip (??? any idea WTF that's all about - I didn't choose either of them....) Now, Sad *******, admit it - you'd rather I replied to you than ignored you, wouldn't you? (See what I mean - saddest **** on the group - he's been binned, knows it and *still* continues to answer my posts!! How freakin' pathetic is that? :-) It's not pathetic at all, when comparde with the guy who claims I've been 'binned', but leaps up screaming every time I call his bull**** for what it is! :-) Cut the crap - is that a 'Yes, I'd rather you replied to me than ignored my posts' or not then, Sad *******? You really do have to feckin' chuckle................. Oh, yesss... ;-) Never a truer word wuz spoke by you!! Ya *do* hafta fekkin' larf !!! :-)) |

The original point has been sidetracked, but still stands.. Here it is again... SP : You are the guys who get all '****ed off' when the obvious failings of valve amps (and the bull**** you claim for them) are pointed out. Moi : Your numerous mechanical watches are less accurate than a £1.99 digital watch which can be had from any market stall. End of. The fact is Pinkieton has an axe to grind with people who appreciate valve amps, such that he needs to repeatedly point out the "obvious failings" of the technology, whilst at the same time he indulges himself with cupboards brimming with watches with "obvious failings" And as noted, I'm happy to acknowledge those obvious failings, and even to discuss how they may be minimised (the new Daniels co-axial escapement, for example). *That* is the difference. -- Stewart Pinkerton | Music is Art - Audio is Engineering |

Maybe not, we did presses for General Dynamics and McAir around that time, and when we went over for the final commisioning there was no problem. And that was where they were building (at least F16/18's). -- Nick |
