Trust me - uncompressed digital audio wireless links are not yet available. I
expect the MP101 compresses wav files on the fly.

Sure they are, just not at the consumer level, unless you gotz lotz
o money.

That was indeed what I meant ( see the context of the thread ). ;-)

Some of us have a 300 CD jukebox ;-)

Who wants to walk down the hall to select a CD in the jukebox when it
can be instantly available on a file server?

It doesn't hurt to get some exercise you know !

Besides who wants to so nerdy as to run a file server just to listen to music
? You won't get laid that way !

A file server is far and away better than a CD jukebox. One can
convert ALL of one's collection, store it and more on the server, and
access it from any client in the house, including the media server
that runs through the TV.

I generally like the idea - it just means you need a PC to listen though. That may
not be as attractive so some ppl ( often called wives or girlfriends ) as you
find it yourself.

Well you can stuff SPDIF down a 2.4 Ghz videosender, and there are one
or two 1.394 Ghz links doing that, 'tho not strictly legal.....

With "lots of money" being $100 per receiving station.

Now that you mention it, I've heard of ppl doing that too. No error recovery
possible of course.

What I reference to is legal.

Well that frequency is supposed to be used for CCTV links but as SPDIF
takes up the same bandwidth, why should it matter?.....

Is there a wireless solution to distributing audio throughout a
residence to 8 rooms? Digital?

Something similar to wireless computer networking...

Thanks,

sonos.com

It's a finished product, 8 rooms is a cakewalk. Even if you are slow at
unpacking boxes and conntecting speakers this system will still take
less than a morning to install.

$500 for each room including amplifier, plus at least one user interface
device at $400 (there's an introductoy discount bring that down to $1200 for
a two-room system), plus speakers for each room, and a computer to act as
music server.

I'd say that's a tolerable price. Building the wireless receiver into an
amplifier is good ... you only need one mains cable per room. And the
controller device looks as if it has a much better user interface than mine
.... the fact that the controller display is handheld must be a big benefit.

On the other hand, if different people in different rooms want independent
control, you'll need multiple controllers ... which is a substantial expense
that doesn't contribute to the music quality.

I spent less than that, and probably have more functionality.

Or check out SlimDevices SqueezeBox 2. Plays FLAC and OGG. For FLAC
you need G wireless speed.
