Anybody know anything about these or had any experience of one?
I threw a small 'chancer' sum at a new* one on eBay and won it. Google
doesn't come up with much that makes sense and there's no mention that I
could find on the somewhat crappy Goldring site - the only 'information' I
could find was this entry in a Canadian forum (Toronto Audiophiles):
"The Goldring Electro 2 was made from 1982 until 1992. It was a high
output
moving coil (2-2.5 mv). It tracks best at 2 grams and likes medium to low
compliant arms. This cartridge retailed at $650. but were cleared out at
the
end of their run for $249. These cartridges were very smooth and musical."
OK, mes braves...
I fully understand that no information would be forthcoming on this cart as,
according to an *all encompassing* cartridge 'Bible' and friend of a friend
has, it doesn't exist!!
Nevertheless, it turned up today (unused NOS, as I expected), has been
fitted and is playing even as I prod at this keyboard! :-)

How does it sound I hear you say?
Well, there was some mention of MC carts in here recently and the word
'magic' was being hurled around. All I will say is that I don't know too
much about the 'science' involved, but if you haven't experienced the
*magic* of an MC cart yourself, then you've no idea!! Even 'raw' and riding
a little 'stern down' (headshell tonearm with no VTA adjustment) the tone,
highs and lows are superb and the 'presentation' and 'poise' of this little
bugger is quite exquisite - had me rushing straightway for my Nana Moussaka
collection!
Detail, imaging, 'air' and clarity is exceptional - it always is with MCs,
(I guess the van den Hul I needle isn't hurting any...), all I gotta do now
is try not to break it..!! ;-)
Mine dew, I'm pushing the sound through triodes/horns and I reckon I'm
getting better than *real* (IYSWIM) - if you are expecting the same
performance from the built-in Phono section of an SS integrated, then I
wouldn't like to say....
