I'm convinced now that many do. Just not in our little world.

I have worked in 18 of the 25 EU countries. That's
"getting out" quite a lot.

There are lots of things you've never heard Iain,

And there are a lot of things I *have* heard. Your
recording of "Domine" is something that sticks in
my mind:-)

Never been to the US I take it?

Or if you did, you obviously did a great job of staying away from techies!

If you are an example of an American "techie" with
your "condensor" (sic) mics and MIDI French horns,
then I don't think I have missed much:-)

So what do they call a 'jack' in each and every one?

But your world is small compared to broadcasting. Which is in turn small
compared to telecoms. And the EU is small compared to the world.

Don't forget he is an expert at "micing" as well. Although
some Felines out there would beg to differ :-))

It should be taken into the teaching syllabus as
a warning to students what can happen if they
neglect the rudiments of crossed-pair technique.

Nothing wrong with balanced of course - it's the pro standard -
but a bit OTT for domestic use.

Not at all. A balanced input and output can be made for mere pence more
than unbalanced ones and can solve a whole host of problems.

Mere pence when you include decent XLRs? Love to know where you buy them
for that...

Do you know how cheap the Chinese copy XLRs are now ? They're perfectly
decent for the job. A tiny fraction of the cost of an idiotic Monster etc
cable with an equally idiotic RCA connector on the end of it.

My experiences of cheap XLRs isn't positive - I tend to stick to Neutric.
But then they're used for the purpose intended.

Heh heh - I wouldn't waste money on those either. I've not found phonos to
be an unreliable connector - unless they get a great deal of
plugging/unplugging. Something they're not designed for.
