**** the milk tray - my two week old Mac Mini has just died....
In what way..hard drive failure...total boot failure...steam coming out of the
sides? Commiserations, presumably you will be able to get it replaced without
too much trouble?

It is - cheap air travel and the Internet guarantees it.
it's driven by greed
Of course - isn't everything?
(Greed itself is driven by fear, but let's not get into all that!)

External hard drive in a USB case is my answer. SyncBackSE does
four-hourly incremental backups of my documents folder.

I've never really seen the Mac thing. It appears to be roughly the
same as windows, but a bit clunkier, double the purchase price and
four times the repair price.
Did you know the first ever virus appeared on a Mac?

Are you sure he hadn't wired both speakers to the one working channel?

Laptops Direct who, for some obscure reason, become Buy It Direct *after*
you have placed your order and paid up front, as usual!
Tbh, if I had known that, it would have stopped me in my tracks straight
away!
Never *ever* again with these clowns, but that 's only the half of it -
inside 28 days you can get a refund, repair or a rub down with the Sporting
Life if you want, it appears but the procedure 'must' start with a
'reference number' from the manufacturer. Try getting that - I've been all
over the Apple site and I can't see 'returns reference number' link for the
life of me....
What I ain't too thrilled about is returned for refund or repair means it
goes away with all my personal data on it - not to mention 18,000 music trax
some clever bugger could pick up for *free*!! - Chuffed *not*, I can tell
you!
And to think I was lecturing my son recently about using external drives
*only* - like the Iomega I bought only a few days ago (to go with my 2
Lacies) and have been using as a backup disk for the Mac!

I think it's a new 'techno disease' called Gadget Pox....

I clone my hard drives one't'other weekly using Aeseus disk copy. It's not very
cost effective [Two extra 1 Tbyte drives are needed] but it's the solution that
gives me most peace of mind.

Yeah, that's mostly the way it seems to me too but I do know people who know a
lot about I.T. who swear by them.
Did you know the first ever virus appeared on a Mac?
No, but I must remember it for future flame threads in I.T. groups.

No I'm not, unfortunately. Should have spent a bit more time there, the flat
was a bit of a tip and I just wanted to get out). Anyway I'll find out where his
wife works and burn her down to the ground in revenge.

What I read you as saying is that you would like for the US to be jealous
over UK's allegedly universal health care.
There is no evidence that a majority of Americans feel that way. In fact
there is counter-evidence. The last time a political party in the US tried
to pass a UK-style universal health care program, it failed, and the party
that tried to pass it was kept out of all important national leadership
positions for about 14 years.
In fact UK-style health care is just another one of those things that the US
will buy or make if it really wants it.
but here's a link to a really important one.
