Patronising? As in pandering to the natives? That would be
Radio 2.

My neighbours may be swarthy and Eastern European, but they
aren't light fingered. Some are agricultural workers, some
contract packers, some dealers in whatever...pretty much
like everyone else round here.

Some are proper Roma, who are genuinely lost, don't know
what Civilisation is, and don't know what to do, but they
still don't steal. Our own "Gypsies" are pale imitations of
the real thing. Time's up for them though, sadly. A diverse
cultural gene-pool might turn out to be quite handy sometime
if ever our corner of civilisation begins to make progress
again.

Joe Ordinaire has no clue how much money is being hosed
down the tubes pandering to 'ethnicity' in this beleagured
land and those 'comfy-plumps' grinning clowns* on the
local BBC news have the gall to tell us we owe the food on
our table to 'migrant workers'!

Rather the opposite. Many of the Eastern Europeans here are
peasants or migrant farm workers displaced by the
agricultural revolution. Their land has been sold or leased
to multinational corporations who use machines instead. So
it's their forced idleness that puts food on our tables.

The concept of people paying realistic,
industry-sustaining/ 'Brit wage'-paying prices in the
shops to start with doesn't enter their heads....

That would be instant hyperinflation, and ppl don't think
about it much because it wouldn't be very nice and it's not
happening yet anyway.

Nobody's listening. I wonder why?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02..._no_listeners/

Well, I listen - all day every day!

In fact, if I'm on this computer I'm listening to a cheap as chips
Acoustic Solutions DAB radio and loving it - usually CFM!!

I see you've sold out and become a DAB Fanboy.

Streuth! Harsh words seein's as I'm almost certainly the most fervent 'anti
digital Luddite' here! :-)

But I'm no bigot, where digital works best I use it; on my 'Needles'
speakers I get a perfectly acceptable sound from the DAB tuner - OK, with
occasional 'boiling porridge' but that's against the frequently present hiss
I get on FM here. Even worse, I'm usually listening to Classic FM!

No hope is there? :-)

That said, my main system radio is FM and sounds better to my ears, but it's
not often I use it for radio - usually I'm watching TV recordings or
digitisng vinyl..

Hey you could have potential as a BBC radio planning/strategy type
person...

Are you sure such a position exists?

case any more.

The BBC's "justification" of digital radio switchover is based on lies

Oh, well, now I know. If anyone asks, I'll be able to explain, won't
I?

A short answer would be as follows:

The BBC recommended to government that an early FM switch off date should be
set without the BBC having any evidence to show that the public was in
favour of that happening - and in fact evidence suggests that the pubilc is
opposed to that happening. The BBC Trust has refused to carry out a public
consultation, despite the fact that it claims it will always carry out
public consultations on any significant change to existing services. The
BBC's Controller in charge of digitla radio was in charge of the technology
"planning" in the Digital Radio Working Group, but it actually only
consisted of them choosing to use DAB from the outset and to ignore all
other technologies - apart from they seem to have brainstormed completely
inaccurate excuses for why not to include other technologies in the plan
towards digital radio switchover.

The BBC's Director of Radio Tim Davie lied on numerous occasions to the
House of Lords select committee on communications last week in order to help
to justify the biased and incompetent decision to press ahead with using
DAB, and he lied when he appeared on Radio 4 Feedback to answer questions
about digital radio switchover last summer. Also, there are BBC-funded
organisations that continually lie in order to help justify digital radio
switchover, including the Digital Radio Development Bureau and the new
Digital Radio UK.
