Not surprising from industry types who hang around in hobbyist
newsgroups, I suppose.
Err, it's called 'audio'. Something you've ignored for years. If it
were 'hi-fi' it could be thought of as a hobbyist group.
For the benefit of the Lurkers, I would like to draw their attention to
the uk.rec.audio charter:
http://www.usenet.org.uk/uk.rec.audio.html
Unless I mistaken, I see the phrase 'hi-fi' mentioned no less than four
times in the first paragrah and it doesn't seem to mention anything else
much...??
Since you're so keen on charters did you read and note the bit about AV
being excluded?
Thus it makes this a *hobbyist* group in my book (and even Mr Plowman's - by
his own description above), especially as there are plento of 'pro' and
other specialist groups available.
Only a warped mind like yours says pros can't also enjoy good audio at
home...
So ignore the *trade types* leering about in here trying to impress and
lets be having those 'my Dansette/Mark Levinson is playing up'
posts...!!
BTW, how does your pal
Churches fit in to your definition? I seem to remember you being up his
a**s more than anyone else here.
I don't do 'babyspeak' - what is 'a**s'...??
Noted you can't even answer a simple point that you originated.
1/10 - must try harder.

I don't know how many people are in the haboit of reading a group's charter
before posting, not many I'd guess.
Well I think most (sensible) people tend to *read* a ng for awhile
before posting. They then can get the flavour for the type of postings
and general feel as to what may or may not be appropriate subjects.
I did that a number of years ago, when I was considering subscribing to
this ng. And, at that time, domestic hi-fi and other related music
matters (media and equipment) was mostly certainly discussed and very
much appropriate to this ng.
Alas, over recent years, it would seem that hi-fi (domestic equipment
and related music) have become (for some) taboo subjects. The mere
mention of music is frowned upon by some in this ng. It would appear
that only the technical are now welcome in this ng and the hi-fi
hobbyist are ignored or held with contempt
For that reason, I very much lurk.

I intend to use this group to discuss fish.
I had some excellent haddock for dinner yesterday.
Certain people's brains will have just exploded.
We are well rid if them.
Was it the full bit rate haddock, mostly get the compacted versions here.
Dave
It was exceedingly good smoked haddock from Seahouses. The flesh WAS
very compact, compared with what you usually buy. But with fish,
that's a good thing.
I've got some kippers too. Watch this space.

Easy for industry types (even bottom feeders) to gob genuine hobbyists out
of the door - pathetic also...

You and maybe a dozen others....

Really? care to quote some posts that suggest that attitude?
The mere mention of music is frowned upon by some in this ng.
One poster objected to discussion of "pure" music (ie, unrelated to it's
reproduction via audio equipment). Such discussion is clearly off-topic (not
that I mind OT discussion myself, but if Keith is going to start quoting the
charter.....)
It would appear that only the technical are now welcome in this ng and the
hi-fi hobbyist are ignored or held with contempt
And in what way are "HiFi hobbyists" not technical?
David.

Personally, I also don't give a fiddler's **** what is on and what is off
topic - I don't feel under pressure to read posts I'm not interested in and
suggest others do the same. That way seriously uninteresting off topic posts
disappear fairly quickly but, by the same token, any off topic remark that
develops into a thread is worth having in this intellectually and culturally
parched assemblage, is it not?
The reason I posted a link to the Charter was in response to this remark:
Err, it's called 'audio'. Something you've ignored for years. If it were
'hi-fi' it could be thought of as a hobbyist group.
Which the group's noisest, self-appointed 'moderator' made in response to my
rematk:
"Not surprising from industry types who hang around in hobbyist newsgroups,
I
suppose.""
Get the picture? I shall continue to post what ever I see fit and I strongly
urge all others to do the same - the ****ed-up/got it all wrong 'wannabee
moderators' can squeal all they like.
(Actually, there is only *one* when you think about it! ;-)
It would appear that only the technical are now welcome in this ng and
the hi-fi hobbyist are ignored or held with contempt
And in what way are "HiFi hobbyists" not technical?
'Hifi hobbyists' may well be 'technical', they may also not be - there is no
requirement here AFAIA...??
(Big mistake to think this ng is some sort of 24/7 freebie Helpline Bulletin
Board for fake 'friends with broken hifi'... ;-)
