OK, but you've completely misread, cut and misrepresented my post. My
'state of mind' as you call
Sorry. Afraid I tend not to use the "royal we" or say "one". Hence my
"your" wasn't talking about you personally.
Ah, a dialect issue.
A bit of advice - avoid the second person pronoun when having a
conversation beyond your locale. For example, if perchance the issue of
human traffic ires thee, avoid saying to the newsagent as you take your
daily: 'you really should stop doing human trafficking'. Instead, try
'they' instead of 'you'. Or don't say anything. Might save you a broken
nose or two.
:-)
Have you ever heard of structural cause by the way? Or do you think
that might be a bit complicated?
No idea what the "structural cause" part means, I'm afraid. Not jargon
I've previously encountered.
No, OK, it's a reference to certain theories that suggest, amongst other
things, that throwing money at certain issues, especially those linked
to socio-economic disadvantage, doesn't always address the cause, just
the symptom. 'Structures' might include things like governments,
industry, media and discourse - these things are the cause, and the
agents (you, me, them) can only work within those structures, and 'they'
cause inequality etc.
OK. That seems to me to an idea that would be plausible in some cases and
not in others. Reality is probably often a mix.
Yes, it's all chickeny-egg - 'structuration' might appeal, google away.

They are not the only criteria for 'gullibility', I'm sure you would
qualify amply on other counts. Not a 'football fan' are you?
Good Lord no! Did you hear on the news today that some football club
somewhere has just paid £50million for a player? It seems it's not only the
bankers that live in a different world to the rest of us.
You really see Nikolai and Guldeep paying Income Tax at 80p in the pound
to keep a load of old farts toasting their tits on the Costa for better
than 30 years?
What a bizzare sentence!

Well OK, "several" if you prefer. But contrary to what Keith was implying
we
are not the most expensive in Europe let alone the rest of the world.
Only in your head - you cook it up and run with it, don't you? I merely
compared typical prices of music CDs which was the position for a long
time before the advent of eBay, Amazon, CDNow, Play.com and any number of
others on the 'Net.
At first, then you broadened it out to include fuel prices abnd pretty much
anything else that it occured to you to rant about.

And of course whilst the tax is higher here than in the US, it's also

I'm afraid that sort of inaccurate generalisation is typical, coming from
that quarter....
Well it's no worse than your inaccurate generalisation.

Quite so, but that's getting beyond the realms of 'gullible'. He bought
that player because, more or less, he could. It's such an insignificant
part of his wealth. Quite what that gives him is difficult to assess.
And before Jim jumps in, I've got no intention of buying a footballer

The gullibility here is from the clowns who think it clever (life defining)
to pay 40 quid a seat to watch a bunch of *expensive* foreigners with exotic
names pretend to be representing a London borough!
Fekk'n priceless....

That's OK, I'll pull it back on topic: when US Dollars = Euros = Pounds
Sterling for hifi gear (and other consumer electronics) off the shelf in
the High Street (Mall), I say those that justify the disparity to
themselves and accept it without a murmer are *gullible*...!!
And how effective have your "murmurs" been in changing the situation?
BTW I don't think you've looked at prices in the Eurozone with any care.
